SECTION 4 <br /> HEALTH AND SAFETY PIAN <br /> This section describes the potential health and safety hazards and <br />' appropriate procedures to be followed to prevent injury or chemical <br /> exposure during drilling and well development activities <br />' Significant site-specific hazards anticipated during drilling, well <br /> development and construction, ground water sampling, and soil <br /> sampling include the following <br /> • Underground utilities, <br />' • Heavy construction equipment (drill rigs), <br /> • Motor traffic; <br />' • Heat stress (in the summer), and <br /> 0 Exposure to petroleum products and/or vapor <br /> The first five of these are classified as physical hazards, while <br /> exposure to petroleum products is considered to be a chemical <br />' hazard Physical and chemical hazards are described separately <br /> below <br />' Physical H"m-ds <br />' Utilities and the underground storage tanks were located by <br /> Underground Service Alert during the UST removal activities in <br /> 1991. Prior to the initiation of the 1992 field work, the locations <br />' markings of of the utilities will be verified by ERM-West personnel <br /> The actual locations of the wells will be carefully chosen using the <br /> information provided by the markout and noting any other potential <br />' hazards (overhead electrical lines, etc ) Caution will also be <br /> maintained during drilling by slowly advancing the drill for <br /> approximately the first five feet of depth <br /> 1 Worker safety in the vicinity of heavy equipment, such as the drill <br /> rig, will be stressed on the fob site Safety procedures will consist of <br /> keeping the personnel working in the vicinity of the drill rig to a <br /> minimum, and making the operator aware of personnel that are <br /> present within his work zone Also, personnel in the immediate <br /> 41 <br /> 1 <br />
