The numbered responses below correspond to the three questions you ask me
during our telephone conservation in March, 1993.
1. Locations of the Brine Solution Release Points
According to the Union Ice Company Facility Engineer, Larry Titsworth, releases of the
brine solution occurred at a pipeline between the east and west buildings in 1980 and at
several unspecified locations beneath the western building (see Attachment A).
2. Water-Level Data and Consistency of the Shallow Horizontal Groundwater Gradient
As part of the environmental investigations conducted at the site concerning petroleum
hydrocarbon leaks, several wells were installed at the site which were monitored quarterly
for a period of one year. The water-table surface was contoured several times, and contour
plots were presented in each quarterly report. These contours plots are included as
Attachments B-1 through B-6, and they indicate a relatively consistent gradient toward the
southeast.
The contours presented on Figure 2 of the subject Levine-Fricke report seem to be
representative of typical conditions. This figure was modified by Levine-Fricke from Figure
