Monitoring well locations are shown
in Figure 2
W Following the placement of the well casing and screen,a sand filter pack, extending to the bottom of the
screen from 2 feet above the top of the screen, was placed in the annular space between the well screen
and the borehole. A 2-foot-thick bentonite seal was placed above the niter pack using bentonite pellets.
The annular space above the benzo-nite was filled with a cement-bentonite grout which extended to the
ground surface.
Each well vias fitted with a lockable watertight cap and a protective-steel well cover. The monitoring
construction details are presented in Appendix A
In order to remove natural aquifer fines and driII cuttings from the vicinity of the well screen, each
monitoring well was developed with a dedicated hand pump. A piece of PVC tubing, the Iength of the
well, was inserted with a check valve on the bottom. The tubing was moved up and down quickly, forcing
i
aquifer fines and water to be forced to the surface through the top of the tubing. Development water
was stored on site in 55-gallon drums following development. ;
Approximately 25 gallons of water were evacuated from each well. Electrical conductivity was monitored
ti and recorded for each well. When the turbidity of discharge waters and/or measurement parameter
stabilized, development was terminated.
r-a 6.4 Ground-Water--Samolin ---- ------ ---------------- --
t Ground water samples were collected from all monitoring wells using the dedicated pump described
., .
above.
aas
