i
L.. First Quarter 1997 Groundwater Monitoring&Remediation Status Report
Moore Petroleum,Inc.,5491 "F"Street,Banta,CA
April 7, 1997
Page 3
REMEDIATION STATUS
Influent and effluent vapor samples have been collected from the vapor extraction system on a
monthly basis to demonstrate compliance with the SJVUAPCD Permit conditions. Quarterly
results for the First Quarter 1997 included the months of November, December and January.
Vapor samples were unable to be collected in October and November of 1996 due to system
malfunction. The air samples were collected according to the Apex SOP included in Appendix A
and submitted, under chain-of-custody documentation, to Sparger Technology, Inc. of
Sacramento, California, a State-certified laboratory. The air samples were analyzed for
concentrations of TPH, as gasoline, and BTEX. Analytical reports and chain-of-custody forms
are included in Appendix B.
During this reporting period, December 17, 1996 through February 13, 1997, the vapor extraction
system has averaged a flow rate of 25 CFM. During this reporting period, vapor samples were
collected for laboratory analysis on December 17, 1996, January 15, and February 13, 1997.
Based on the vapor sample analytical results for December 17, 1996, the system extraction rate
was 1.4 pounds per day (lb./day) as TPH, as gasoline, and 0.049 lb./day of benzene. Based on the
- vapor sample analytical results for January 15, 1997, the system extraction rate was 1.7 pounds
per day (lb./day) as TPH, as gasoline, and 0.060 lb./day of benzene. Based on the vapor sample
analytical results for February 13, 1997, the system extraction rate was below laboratory detection
limits for TPH, as gasoline, and benzene. As of February 13, 1997, the vapor extraction system
has extracted 1,720 pounds of TPH, as gasoline, and 19.9 pounds of benzene. System operating
data is contained in Table 3. Extraction rates and analytical results to date are summarized in
Table 4.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Monitoring well MW-1 is the only well at the subject site containing constituents of gasoline and
diesel; all other wells have been below laboratory detection limits for constituents analyzed since
February of 1996. These facts lead Apex to the recommendation that monitoring well MW-1
should be monitored on a quarterly basis and monitoring wells MW-2 through MW-6 should be
monitored on an annual basis.
Soil vapor concentrations being withdrawn from vapor extraction well VEW-1 and monitoring
well MW-I have been steadily decreasing with time. Extraction rates of the remediation system in
February of 1997 were below laboratory detection limits for concentrations of TPH, as gasoline,
and benzene. Apex recommends turning the vapor extraction system and air sparge system off
until the underground storage tanks are removed from the subject site in the summer or fall of
1997, at which time the subsurface conditions of the subject site will be characterized.
