Second Quarter 2003 Groundwater Monitoring/Remediation Status Report
Moore Petroleum Bulk Plant,5491 F Street,Banta,Calirornia
Page 6
Vapor Anal sis Performed:
Analysis Abbreviation Designation 11SEPA Method No.
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TPHg Gas-Range 8015 Modified
as Gasoline H drocarbons
Benzene
Aromatic
Toluene BTEX Volatile 8020
Eth (benzene Organics
Xylenes (Total)
Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether MTBE Fuel 8260B
Oxygenate
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on groundwater analytical results, concentrations remained consistent this quarter
compared with last quarter. The only abnormality were concentrations of TPHd in wells, which
historically did not have TPHd. The domestic well sampling results for all three sampling events
during the quarter were below detection limits.
Groundwater elevations decreased an average 0.62 feet this quarter compared with last quarter.
Groundwater isoconcentration maps for TPHg and benzene show the petroleum hydrocarbon
plume centered by the dispenser island and are defined, white the isoconcentration maps for
TPHd and MTBE are not defined to the northeast.
The SVE system influent samples collected during this reporting period were non-detect for
benzene concentrations and only low TPHg concentrations were detected. Apex has begun
pulsing the SVE system to observe whether concentrations rebound with the system shut down.
It is noted that TPH as diesel (TPHd) concentrations in wells MW-1,MW-3, MW-S, MW-10,
VEW-2, and VEW-3 are not decreasing; some non-volatile TPHd compounds are being
classified as TPH as motor oil (TPHmo) in the groundwater samples. These less volatile
compounds will not be removed by soil vapor extraction. Therefore, Apex recommends
evaluating alternative in-situ technologies such as in-situ chemical oxidation to remove the
TPHd/TPHmo mass from the soil and groundwater, and reduce groundwater concentrations to
non-detect for these compounds.
Apex recommends continued remediation and groundwater monitoring to confirm laboratory
data and monthly groundwater sampling of the domestic well. The next monitoring event is
conducted in July 2003,
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITES PERFORMED AT SITE
None
