Lika Corp. -2-
filter pack material designed for the aquifer to be screened
will indicate the slot size to use on the screen. If a
bentonite seal is placed below the water table, 1/4-inch
pellets should be used. If the bentonite seal is placed
above the water table, 8-20 mesh granules should be used.
The bentonite seal should be wetted with potable water (1
gallon of water for every two pounds of bentonite) . At
least 1/2 hour should be allowed for hydration of the
bentonite prior to placing the cement grout.
0 Well development should be done using a vented surge block
or bailer. Any fluid extracted from the wells must be
stored in containers and tested. If the water is
contaminated, it must be treated as hazardous waste. This
fluid must not be discharged onto the ground or into the
sewer, as proposed in the plan unless it is deemed
nonhazardous by laboratory analysis.
0 If ground water contamination is detected in Phase I
monitoring, the installation of deeper level
piezometers/monitoring wells will be required.
Piezometers/monitoring wells will need to be 4" in diameter
and have screen lengths of less than 10 feet; these wells
will be installed in approximately the same deposits which,
in the Stockton area, should be at nearly the same depth.
Construction details of these wells will need to have DHS
approval prior to their installation.
0 A more complete schedule is required. Dates for drilling
boreholes and installing monitoring wells for Phase I and
Phase II should be added to the plan.
o Item 4 Hazard Assessment in the Site Safety Plan refers to
removal of plating tanks and spilled materials. Lika must
document the removal and disposal of these items and furnish
this information to this office.
o The reference to the Corps of Engineers in Section 6. 1,
Medical Monitoring appears to be a mistake.
0 The names of the project safety officer and site safety
officer should be added to the Site Safety Plan.
MR:baw
