SECTION 4
Field Activities and Results
This section presents the field activities and results of the Disco Additional Investigation.
Analytical results for soil are presented on Table 4-1.Analytical results for groundwater are
presented on Table 4-2.Physical soil parameter analyses are presented in Table 4-3. CPT
generated boring logs for each boring are included in Appendix A. Laboratory data sheets
and a data validation report are included in Appendix B.
4,1 Field Activities
The field activities were conducted between December 16 and December 22, 1999;on
January 17 and 18,2000;and between March 13 and March 17,2000.
The following is a brief account of the CPT boring activities that occurred on the
aforementioned dates:
• Six CPT borings (CPT-1,-1A, -2, -3,-4, and -5) were installed between December 16 and
December 22, 1999, in the former tank and pump area (Figure 4-1) to assess the vertical
and lateral extent of petroleum constituents in soil and groundwater directly beneath
this area.
Borings for lithologic description were installed to the following depths:
• CPT-1 was pushed to 88.75 feet bgs. Refusal was encountered at this depth.
• CPT-1A was pushed adjacent to CPT-1 to a depth of 95 feet bgs.Refusal was again
encountered.
•
CPT-2,-3,-4 and-5 were all pushed to a total depth of 150 feet bgs.
Barings for collection of soil and groundwater samples were installed after the lithologic
CPT borings.Sampling depths were agreed upon with Ron Rowe/PHS/EHD in the
field after evaluating the lithologic logs. Successful sampling depths for each CPT boring
can be found in Tables 4-1 and 4-2. Collection of groundwater samples from between 47
and 48 ft bgs(at the top of the water table)was attempted in borings CPT-3,-4,and--5,
however, these attempts were unsuccessful because the borings did not yield
groundwater. Groundwater samples were attempted at depths greater than 100 ft bgs in
borings CPT-3 and CPT-4,however refusal was encountered at 91 and 95 ft bgs,
respectively.
• Three borings (CPT-6,-7,and-8)were installed on January 17 and 18,2000,
approximately 120 feet south of the site along the shoulder of Highway 4 (Figure 4-1)to
assess the downgradient lateral and vertical extent of petroleum constituents in .
groundwater.
i Borings for lithologic description were installed to the following depths:
• CPT-6 was pushed to a total depth of 147 feet bgs
• CPT-8 and-7 were pushed to a total depth of 130 feet bgs.
5F=PT REPORT_].DOC/003870036 41
