SEMON 4
Quality Assurance Project Plan
This quality assurance project plan describes the field and laboratory quality control procedures that will
be implemented while completing tasks described in Section 3.
4.1 Quality Assurance Objectives
The quality assurance objective for analytical data is to provide environmental data of known and
acceptable quality. To meet this objective, the following field and laboratory quality control procedures
will be implemented.
4.2 Calibration of Field Equipment
The following field equipment will require calibration:
• Photoionization Detector(PID) [e.g.,Hnu,or OVM]
The PID meter will be calibrated to standards before and after each day's use in accordance with the
procedures and schedules outlined in the particular model's handbook. The calibration standards for
these instruments and their suppliers are listed below.
Calibration Standards and Suppliers
Instrument Calibration Standard Supplier
Hnu Benzene,55 ppm HNu Systems,Inc. Newton
Highlands,MA
OVM Isobutylene,100 ppm HAZCO Services,Inc., Dayton,
Ohio,
The results of calibrations and records of repairs will be recorded in a field notebook.
1
Scheduled periodic calibration of testing equipment does not relieve field personnel of the responsibility
of using properly functioning equipment. If an individual suspects an equipment malfunction, the device
will be removed from service and tagged so that it is not inadvertently used, and the appropriate
personnel will be notified so that recalibration can be performed or a substitute piece of equipment can be
obtained.
Equipment that fails calibration or becomes inoperable during use will be removed from service and
either segregated to prevent inadvertent use,or tagged to indicate it is out of calibration. Such equipment
will be repaired and satisfactorily recalibrated. Equipment that cannot be repaired will be replaced.
Results of activities performed using equipment that has failed recalibration will be evaluated. If the
activity results are adversely affected, the results of the evaluation will be documented and the
appropriate personnel notified.
Calibration instructions will be included with each instrument and accompany the instrument to the field.
r
CATEMPIW0RKPuAN_DC1-1.DoC 9
