The aquifer test will include a step-drawdown test and a constant rate discharge test. The step-
drawdown test will be conducted to determine the optimal pumping rate for the constant discharge test.
Prior to the step-drawdown test, water levels will be measured continuously for one to three days using
downhole pressure transducers and a data logger to provide an indication of short term variations in
water levels. After the step-drawdown test and prior to starting the constant rate test, the water levels
will be allowed to recover to 95 percent of initial static water levels.Water level measurements from the
pumped well and select observation wells will be recorded. It is anticipated that all water pumped during
the pumping test will need to be temporarily stored onsite. The duration of the pumping test will be
dependent upon the yield of the well and storage capacity for the pumped water. Pumping test data will
be analyzed by the appropriate methods, such as Theis,Cooper Jacob, and Neuman methods.
All water pumped from the extraction well during the aquifer pumping tests will be managed according
to federal,state,and local regulations.
3.3 Equipment Decontamination
At each drilling location,an area will be established for equipment decontamination. All CPT drill rods,
drilling equipment will be steam cleaned before use,and between each soil boring. All groundwater and
soil sampling equipment will be washed with Alconox soap and triple rinsed with distilled water.
3.4 Waste Characterization. and Disposal Plan
Three types of waste will be generated during the activities described in this work plan:
I • Rinse water from decontamination of equipment
• Water from well development.
• Soil cuttings and drilling fluids from mud rotary drilling(CPT logging/boring does not generate drill
cuttings)
Suits/protective clothing
r
All wastes will be temporarily stored onsite in 55-gallon drums, polyethylene storage tank(s)or roll-off
bins. All containers will be labeled with information indicating the owner and source of the waste, and
date of generation. For purposes of waste characterization, groundwater and soil samples will be collected
j at a frequency defined by the disposal facility and analyzed for TPH-gas and BTEX by EPA Method
8015/8020, TTLC lead,and oxygenates,including 1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2-DCA), 1,2-Dibromoethane
(EDB),and tert Butanol(TBA),by EPA Method 8260,in a state-certified laboratory.
All hazardous wastes will be disposed of within 90 days of their collection.
If prior approval is received from the local POTW,waste water may be disposed of directly to the local
sanitary sewer system. All wastes will ultimately be managed according to federal, state, and local
regulations.
i
{
f
i
CATEMP\WaRKPLA _DGk1.DOC g
