Ms. Margaret Lagorio
San Joaquin County
July 24, 1995
Page 4
screened using a PID. Soil samples will be collected from adjacent locations and
analyzed for TPH with characterization of peaks and CAM five metals.
Unpaved Storage Area
Most of the southern half of the project site is being used for storage of parts,
supplies, and equipment. It is reportedly sprayed with Round-Up and Surflan every
year to prevent weed growth. The compounds in Round-Up decompose rapidly after
application. Little information was found regarding the active ingredient in Surflan;
however, it is used as a pre-emergent to control weed growth and is anticipated to
break down rapidly as well. The area surrounding the site is used for row crops and
orchards. Pesticide/herbicide use on these surrounding areas is unknown.
Four soil samples will be collected from random locations within six inches of the
ground surface and composited into one. In addition, two discrete soil samples will
be collected from low areas at approximately one foot bgs. The soil samples will be
analyzed for herbicides and pesticides.
Paint Shop Area
Equipment is painted inside and on a concrete apron next to the paint shop. Paint has
stained the ground near the edges of the apron. Both oil- and water-based paints have
been used at the site.
Soil gas samples will be collected in two stained areas adjacent to the paint shop and
will be field screened using a PID. Soil probes will be driven in adjacent locations and
soil samples collected. Soil samples will be analyzed for 17-Title 22 metals.
Reporting
A report describing field activities, analytical results, estimated volume of impacted
soil, and conclusions will be prepared and submitted to FMC and SJCEHD.
Uhl HYDRO-SEARCH, II IC.
