Quarterly Monitoring Report
April through lune 1993
r rr; 1
Smith's Canal Pump Plant
Page 2
removed from MW4. Table 2 summarizes the product thickness measurements and volume of
product removed. All bailed product has been contained in a DOT approved double containment
drum pending appropriate disposal.
Groundwater samples were collected on June 9, 1993, from wells MW2 and MW3. No
groundwater sample was collected from MW4, due to the presence of product sheen. San
Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHSIEHD) has granted
semi-annual groundwater sampling for MWl, therefore, no sample was taken from this well.
The next groundwater sampling for MW 1 is tentatively scheduled for October 1993. Prior to
sample collection, each sampled well was purged of a minimum of three well volumes of water
to collect representative groundwater samples. Purged water was contained in labeled 55 gallon
drums (DOT H), and stored on-site.
Groundwater samples were collected after physical parameters (pH, temperature, and
conductivity) were monitored and had stabilized. A dedicated disposable bailer with a bottom-
emptying device was used to collect samples from wells MW2 and MW3. Field purge logs are
presented in Attachment 1.
LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) and total petroleum
hydrocarbons as diesel(TPHD)by Sequoia Analytical, a State-certified laboratory, utilizing EPA
methods 8020 and modified 8015, respectively. Analytical results are summarized in Table 3.
Laboratory data sheets and chain-of-custody documentation are included in Attachment 2.
Laboratory results indicate dissolved hydrocarbon constituents in the diesel range are present in
well MW3 at 55 parts per billion (ppb), which is marginally above the detection limit of 50 ppb.
Monitoring well MW2 laboratory results indicate dissolved hydrocarbon constituents are not
present at or above detection limits.
ANTICIPATED ACTIVITIES
RESNA anticipates that the additional field activities proposed in RESNA's April b, 1993
workplan will begin in late July. Field work will include the installation of two additional
monitoring wells and drilling seven soil borings to further define the extent of groundwater and
QRTpRLY`2QMR1993.PNL
