However, test results also indicate that the soils at the base of.Waste Oil Tank #10
excavation(sample TPt0)contain non-detectable concentrations of the above constituents and only
1.0 mglkg bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, indicating that the contaminated soils h►ve been successfully
removed from the excavation;0.6 mg/kg bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate was detected in tank excavation
11. Total petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in tank excavations 4, 5;`and $(Tables 3 and 41.
Based upon the laboratorytest resuits and our observations during tank removal,we conclude that
extensive contamination of the soils in tank`excavations 1, 2, 31 6,'7, 9, 10 and 11',has`not occurred
and that additional work in these areas is not necessary. We recommend backfihin these
g
emcavations upon approval by the San Joaquin County local health district.
We recommend the overexcavation of soils in tank excavations 4, S and $ until laboratory testing
-~- indicates iron-detectable concentrations of TPH and BTX& as r San::Joaquin Count
? requirements. Contaminated soils generated during excavation and the:contaminated waste oil tank
stockpile can then be disposed of or remediated in accordance with San Joaquin County protocol.
Our conclusions and recommendations are based on our assessment of conditions indicated to exist
as of the date of our'field work, November 10, 1989., The results of this investigation do not
preclude the possibility of hazardous materials being prescnt`on the property in areas,wc did not
! investigate.
