k'q KLEINFELDER
An employee owned company
File No. 50890.E01
July 20, 2005
Mr. Carl Ryalls
California Nuggets
23073 S. Frederick Road
Ripon, California 95366
Via Facsimile 209.599-6320 and U.S. Mail
RE: ADDENDUM LETTER,
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WORKPLAN
CALIFORNIA NUGGETS
RIPON, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Ryalls,
This addendum to the original letter prepared for the Baseline Groundwater Quality
Assessment (Kleinfelder document 50890.E01/STOR358 dated April 29, 2005) is in
response to the comments from the State of California Regional Water Quality Control
Board (RWQCB) and their requirement to address those comments prior to
commencing any work. The italicized comments made by the RWQCB are as re-stated
below followed by a response.
Please reconsider the well construction. Section 4.2 states that a 15-feet long well
screen will be placed so that 10-feet of the screen extends below the water table. If
floating phase liquids are not anticipated to exist at the site it may be beneficial to set
the well screen slightly deeper to minimize the likelihood of the wells going dry later in
the year when the regional water table may be lowered by groundwater pumping or
seasonal fluctuation.
Floating phase liquids are not anticipated at the site. In accordance with the RWQCB
concern that the wells may be placed too high in the water table and dewater during
seasonal periods of lower water table levels; we propose to install the monitoring wells
an additional 5-feet to a total depth of 30-feet. The well screens will be 15-feet long
and be installed between 15-feet and 30-feet below the ground surface. Groundwater
is anticipated at approximately 15-feet below ground surface. The revised construction
detail can be seen on the attached Revised Plate 3.
The well construction described in Section 4.2 includes a 15-feet long screen; Plate 3
indicates the well screen will be 10-feet long. Please clarify the proposed well
construction and revise Plate 3 as needed.
As indicated in the text of the Workplan; the total well screen length will be 15-feet long.
Attached to this addendum letter is a Revised Plate 3.
50890.EO1/ST05L236 Page I of
0 2005 Kleinfelder, Inc.
