TreadwelEftllo
Ms. Margaret Lagorio
9 September 1999
Page 2
the appropriate laboratory supplied containers. All samples will be retained in an iced cooler and
sent to a state certified laboratory using chain of custody procedures.
Areas 15, 16, and 21 have ongoing quarterly monitoring programs. Where possible, wells to be
sampled at these sites will be sampled concurrently with the scheduled quarterly monitoring.
Waste Disposal
Soil generated during the boring and well installation, and water generated during well purging
and decontamination procedures will be drummed, labeled, and disposed of once the chemical
analyses results are known.
SITE DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND
The North Shore Parcel consists of the following sites:
Area 10
Name/Address: This site is referred to as the Banner Island Site at(Figure 2). The site is north of
the Stockton Deep Water Channel, south of West Lindsay Street between Van Buren and North
Madison Streets.
Background and Current Status: The site was formally a delta island, reclaimed during the
1920's. The site was leased by the Guntert and Zimmerman Construction Division, Inc., and
used for shipbuilding and repair, and storage of steel. Currently the site is clear with some
pavement/concrete, but no remaining structures (Figure 2).
Characterization/Remediation Status: Previous site investigations were performed in 1989,
1992, 1993, 1995, and by Treadwell & Rollo in 1996. Varying amounts of petroleum
hydrocarbon and heavy metals were detected in both the soil and groundwater. These studies
demonstrated that shallow soil at Area 10 has been impacted by lead and fuel hydrocarbons
Proposed Soil Investigation: Twelve test pits will be dug to an approximate depth of six feet
deep, with two soil samples collected from each pit.
Proposed Groundwater Investigation• The eight existing monitoring wells currently on site will
be sampled. No new groundwater monitoring wells are planned at this time.
Area 15
Name/Address: This site is referred to as the Chase Chevrolet Site at 423 North Madison Street
(Figure 3).
