• •
CRYSTAL CREAMERY - STOCKTON
• WKA No 1628 01
March 17, 1994
Page 5
western border along Van Buren Street The contamination along Van Buren Street is a concern
due to the high levels of gasoline contamination detected in ground water samples from the three
monitoring wells located there, and the proximity of the contamination to the Crystal Creamery
property One of the three wells is reported by RESNA in their April 16, 1992 Quarterly
Report, to have over 11/7. feet of floating hydrocarbons on the water The RESNA quarterly
report also indicated ground water flow direction beneath the western portion of the property was
to the north with a gradient of 0 003 ft/ft
A subsurface investigation has been completed on the property immediately south of the Crystal
site by RESNA for the City of Stockton This property was previously used by Western Pacific
Railroad (WPRR) as a loading/unloading and storage area for railroad cars Three monitoring
wells were placed on the WPRR property to evaluate ground water quality and determine ground
water flow direction and gradient beneath the site Ground water flow direction was calculated to
• be to the north beneath the site The northernmost monitoring well (MW2) is located along the
southern boundary of the Crystal site and may provide valuable data in evaluating the ground
water characteristics beneath the Crystal site Results of RESNA's investigation are included in
their Second Phase Subsurface Investigation Report dated June 17, 1992 RESNA concludes in
their report that "the results of this investigation indicate that former site operations have not
significantly impacted beneficial use of the ground water beneath the site "
Proposed Scope of Work
Further investigation to evaluate the extent of petroleum contaminated soils immediately west and
east of the former tank is not necessary based on total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH)
concentrations below 1 mg/kg in samples S-18-5 and B1 Additional assessment of soils north of
the former tank will not be completed during this phase of work due to the low concentrations of
TPH-gasoline (28 6 mg/kg) detected in sample B2 at a depth of 15 feet Additional evaluation of
soils to the south of the former tank is considered impractical due to the location of the loading
dock and refrigeration warehouse
WALLACE KUHL
R„kd p yh.
