CRYSTAL CREAMERY - STOCKTON
WKA No 1628 01
May 9, 1991
Page 2
I
Applied GeoSystems (AGS) drilled and sampled two sal borings on October 29, 1986 (Plate
' 2) Boring B1 was advanced to 21 5 feet with ground water reportedly encountered at 16 3
feet below surface grade Boring B2, which was subsequently converted to monitoring well
MW-1 , was advanced to 38 5 feet with ground water reportedly encountered at 18 feet
' below surface grade AGS also obtained, sal samples S1 and S2 from the excavation at
depths of 14 and 12 feet, respectively Soil samples S-16-1, S-16-2, S-18-3, and S-18-5
were collected during excavation of contaminated soil on October 29, 1986 Locations of
' the boring and excavation samples are shown on Plate 1 Laboratory results are summarized
in Table 1, the complete AGS report is included as Appendix A
On January 13, 1988, a representative of AGS visited the site and used a portable soil vapor
laboratory to evaluate the lateral extent of hydrocarbon contamination in both the soil and
t ground water Samples collected during the soil vapor procedure reported no detectable levels
of BT&X above a detection level of 2 parts per million (ppm)
The excavation was reportedly extended on July 29, 1987 to a depth of approximately 22
feet No record of soil sampling during this excavation is available
' A January 11 , 1991 AGS letter to Crystal Cream and Butter Company reported that a
composite sample of stockpiled material had been analyzed for TPH-gasoline and BTX&E
' Results of the laboratory analysis were reported below detection levels The stockpiled soils
were reportedly removed at the request of Crystal Creamery and taken to Holt Dump near
Stockton
Physiogral2hic and H dro eolo is Setting
' The subject site is located on the southwester) corner of the intersection Y e section of West Fremont
and Van Buren Streets in the central porton of the City of Stockton Surface elevation on site
is approximately 15 feet above sea level Local terrain is relatively flat with very little relief
across the site
The 1966 California Division of Mines and Geology "Geologic Map of California, San Jose
Sheet" shows the site to be underlain by the Quaternary Basin Deposits These deposits
consists primarily of "semi-consolidated gravels, sands and silts" that are the remnants of
older alluvial terraces and dissected alluvial fans The thickness of the Quaternary Basin
