FIELD PROCEDURES
oil Borin Monitorin Well
Prior to drilling, Underground Services Alert will be contacted and permits obtained from the
San Joaquin Environmental Health Division and City of Stockton The boring will then be
drilled and sampled to a depth of approximately 40 feet using a drill-rig equipped with hollow-
stem augers The soils encountered in the boring will be logged by a field geologist using the
Utufied Sods Classification System Soil samples will be collected within the boring at five-foot
maximum intervals using a modified California sampler equipped with clean, two-inch diameter,
six-inch long brass tubes The samples will be screened in the field with a Photoionzation
detector to estimate the extent of hydrocarbon contamination Samples tubes will be sealed with
polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-coated sheets and plastic caps to reduce volatile hydrocarbon loss,
preserved on ice and submitted with chain-of-custody documentation to a California-certified
laboratory Augers, drilling rods and samplers will be steam cleaned in the field Rinsate from
I
the steam cleaning procedure will be contained and stored on site in sealed and labeled 55-gallon
drums Soil generated during drilling activities will be stored at the subject site in sealed and
labeled 55-gallon drums
An estimated two soil samples will be selected from the boring and analyzed for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline using Modified EPA method 8015, and for Benzene, Toluene,
F.thylbenzene, and Total Xylenes (BTEX) using EPA method 8020
The boring will be converted to a monitoring well using two-inch diameter, flush pointed,
Schedule 40 PVC casing, 0 02-inch slotted casing will be used for the screened interval Number
3 Monterey sand will be placed in the well annulus as a filter pack The filter pack will extend
from the bottom of the screened interval to approximately one foot above the top of the screened
interval A two-foot thick bentonite seal will be placed in the well annulus above the filter pack
A grout seal consisting of a Portland Cement and bentonite slurry will be placed into the well
annulus above the bentonite seal The well will be completed with a locking well cap and a flush
mounted traffic rated man-hole cover A well construction diagram is shown on Plate 3 The
well will be constructed under the supervision of a Calltornla Registered Geologist
WALLACE-KOHL
ReryyW pnper &ASSOCIATES INC
