APPENDIX
FIELD PROCEDURES
Page 2
Monitoring Well Development, Purging and Sam lin
At least 24 hours after construction of the new well, the water level will be measured with an
electronic well sounder and the well checked for free product using a cleat bailer The well will
then be developed using a vented surge block Approximately three to five well volumes of
water will be removed with a submersible pump until temperature, pH and conductivity readings
stabilized and/or the water cleared of sediment Water samples will then be collected by
lowering a new polyethylene disposable bailer into the well Water from the bailer will be
decanted directly into appropriate sample containers All samples will be preserved on ice and
selected samples submitted with chain-of-custody documentation to a California-certified
laboratory for analyses of TPH as gasoline, using modified EPA test method 8015 and BTEX,
using EPA test method 602 A travel blank prepared by the analytical laboratory also will be
analyzed for any volatile compounds detected
Pumping equipment will be cleaned prior to use in each well with a solution of trlsod'um
phosphate and distilled water to minimize the potential for cross contamination All water
removed during purging operations will be stored on the subject property In sealed and labeled
55-gallon drums
WALLACE KUHL
Recycled paper Er ASSOCIATES INC
