': iMEHTO 91664646719 P. 13/14 <br /> TOT A L =IMAM <br /> TM <br /> �� Pipe Jacket'"' Publication No: PJP-300 <br /> CONTAINMEN 1 Effective Date: 3-01-88 <br /> r <br /> Specifications Supersedes: TCI-041 <br /> introduction <br /> The following includes guide specifications, technical information and dimensional specifications on the Pipe <br /> Jacket components and system. <br /> Manufacturer <br /> Total Containment, Inc. (TCI), located in Exton, PA is the manufacturer of the Pipe JacketIm secondary containment <br /> components all components are shipped directly to TCI customers from the Exton, PA facility. TC1 manufactures <br /> additional products such as the Tank Jacket, a secondary containment system for underground tanks, and the TCI <br /> Leak Detection System. <br /> Primary Piping <br /> The primary piping to be jacketed can be fiberglass, steel, or any other type of primary piping'which has been approved . <br /> and/or specified by local regulators. Before final assembly of the Pipe Jacket an air pressure test must be performed on <br /> the primary piping to detect any leaks that may exist. <br /> Secondary Containment <br /> The Pipe Jacket installed over the primary piping provides a double wall piping system which can prevent leaking <br /> product from escaping into the environment. The Pipe Jacket performs as an air tight guttering system, providing total <br /> containment of the primary piping system from under the dispensers to the submersible pump, including all swing joints <br /> ®or flex connectors. Any leak in the primary pipe will flow from the high end of the system towards a collection sump, <br /> Wocated at the low end of the system. <br /> Pipe Jacket Sealing <br /> There are two types of sealing systems available, from TCI,for the Pipe Jacket. They are as follows: <br /> Fusion Seat System: All overlap joints in this secondary containment system are sealed by using a polyethylene <br /> coated resistant wire which is inserted and clamped into a pipe or fitting overlap joint. The wire is then connected to 24 <br /> volts to generate resistant heat sufficient to create a homogeneous bond between the two components. <br /> Mechanical Seal System: All overlap joints in this secondary containment system are sealed by using a <br /> Compression Seal and stainless steel clamps. By tightening the clamp over the Compression Seal, when sandwiched <br /> inside the overlap joint a mechanical seal is achieved between the two components. <br /> Pipe Jacket Materials <br /> All components used In the Pipe Jacket Secondary Containment System, are made of materials suitable for the <br /> application. Each has excellent properties for use in underground applications and compatibility with hazardous liquids. <br /> The materials used are listed as follows: <br /> High Density Polyethylene (HDPE): This material is used in a variety of .molding processes to produce; <br /> straight pipe,flex pipe, fittings, sump/risers, couplings, collars, and fusion welding wire, ribbon and rod. <br /> Buna-N (Nitrile) (NBR): This material is used to make the Compression Seals used In the Pipe Jacket: <br /> Mechanical Seal System. <br /> Stainless Steel (300 Series Plus): This material is used to make all components of the compression <br /> band clamps used for both the Fusion and Mechanical Seal System of the Pipe Jacket. <br /> Corrosion Protection <br /> hen the Pipe Jacket Secondary Containment System is used to containsteel primary piping, it provides an excellent <br /> means of corrosion protection because it Isolates the steel piping from the environment that surrounds it. This Isolation <br /> reduces the possibility of dl-electric, chemical and microbial corrosion beacuse the steel piping does not come into <br /> contact with stray electrical current, chemicals, or sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB's) that are commonly found in most <br /> soils. <br />
