j
1
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
Soil and groundwater sampling on the site will be conducted using a probe rig. Soil core
sampling is;conducted using 5-foot sections of decontaminated 314-inch LD. galvanized steel
probe pipe. The probe pipe is connected to a 1-foot, 314-inch diameter, galvanized steel soil core
tube. Stainless steel decontaminated insert rods are placed through the probe pipe and sampling
p!robe
core. The probe pipe, soil core and insert rods are together pneumatically driven to the dep e
soil core is desired. The insert rods are removed and the probe pipe and core tube is driven one
foot to obtain the soil core sample. The probe pipe containing the soil core sample is removed.
from the hole and the soil sample is disconnected from the probe pipe. The ends of the core are
sealed using'teflon tape and plastic end caps.
Groundwater sampling is conducted using a 6-foot section of decontaminated 3/4-inch I.D.
perforated ar slotted galvanized steel probe pipe. The perforated probe pipe is connected to five
foot sections of probe pipe, as required. Decontaminated insert rods are placed through the probe
pipe and pneumatically driven into the aquifer or saturated zone. Groundwater samples are
collected using decontaminated stainless steel bailers and placed into sample containers provided
by the analytical laboratory. After sampling, the probe pipes are removed and the hole is grouted
using Portland cement.
2
Irl
