Apex proposed
additional subsurface investigation and groundwater monitoring installation at the site. The
Proposed work was documented by Apex in Workplanfor LimiledSubsurface Itivestigatior, and
WarAplan Addendum far Limited Subsurface Imestigation, dated May 2, 1995 and January 24,
1997,respectively,
On July 28, 1997,Apex personnel supervised the drilling of six sod borings, and converting the
borings into six groundwater monitoring wells(Figure 2,MWA through MW-6)at the site. The
results of the work were documented by Apex in Results of Subsurface Invesligatiory, dated
August 21, 1997.
In April 1998, Apex submitted a closure request for the former diesel tank location, which is on
the west side of the subject site area and also recommended discontinuing analyses for oxygenate
constituents with the exception of MT13E in wells MW-1,MW-2 and MW-3. Apex further
recommended discontinuing analyses for TPHd in wells MW-1,MW.2 and MW-3.
GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
The subject sites situated in-the-northern portion of the San Joaquin Valley sub-basin of the
Cvmt Valley geomorphic province. The Great Valley is an asymmetrical synclinal trough with its
axis off center to the west. In the Stockton area,it is interrupted by the Stockton Fault in the
Stockton Arch. The regional geology consists chiefly of various alluvial marine and non-marine
sediments of the Quaternary and upper Tertiary age. The Stockton Arch exposes upper
Cretaceous marine sediments just south ofthe Stockton Fault. The Stockton Fault is an east-west
trending normal fault, with the southern block upthrown.
The site lies on the Stockton Deep Water Channel of the San Joaquin River, which borders the
southern portion of the site. The Stockton Deep Water Channel allows access to the Port of
Stockton by sea going ships. Portions of the Colberg Boat Works property are subject to
intermittent flooding as water levels change in the San Joaquin River and the Stockton Deep
Water Channel. Annual rainfall in the Stockton area averages about 20 inches.
PILOT TESTING AND FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS
The following is a discussion of the activities to be completed for the Pilot Testing and Feasibility
Analysis. All of the tasks are subject to regulatory agency review and approval.
TB:DAApxNPr*jectslPrqjem\CW)Mo1-001%F=zibffityWorkp1am&c
