Box 881
Stockton CA 4J*5-2-t-
RE: Valley Showcase Site Code: 1114
913 W. Fremont Street
Stockton CA 95203
In a letter dated April 6, 1999,JJW GeoSciences Inc. am stated that the
Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund (Fund) had requested the rational for
testing for petroleum oxygenates as proposed in the Workplan for ORCPlacement and
Monitoring dated December 1, 1998 prepared by JJW.
Analytical results of water samples from 3 separate sampling events have been less than
5 parts per billion (ppb) Methyl tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE). Currently, there are no
underground storage tanks (UST) at or near this site. Therefore, San Joaquin County
Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has determined
that further analyses for oxygenates is not warranted.
WM.J. HUNTER & Associates (Hunter) installed three Monitoring Wells (MW)
MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 on February 28, 1994. The screen section was set from 15
feet below surface grade (bsg) to 30 feet bsg for all 3 MW. Depth to groundwater was
recorded at approximately 20 feet bsg on February 28, 1994 at the time of the MW
installation, but was recorded to be at between 13.19 feet bsg to 13.50 feet bsg on
March 8, 1994 during MW development. Depth to groundwater has been above the
top of the screen of all three wells since March 8, 1994. Hence, analytical results of
water samples from MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 may not reflect actual contaminant
levels in first water. MW-4 was installed on May 7, 1996 approximately 111 feet
northeast of MW-2 on the eastside of Stockton Street. The screen section of MW-4 was
set from 5 feet bsg to 25 feet bsg.
MW-2 is the only MW where the water samples have consistently demonstrated
hydrocarbon contamination impact. Analytical results of the water samples from
MW-2 were 96,800 parts per billion (ppb) of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon as gasoline
(TPH-g), 400 ppb of Benzene, 2000 ppb of Xylenes in March 1994, and 50,000 ppb of
TPH-g, 250 ppb of Benzene, and 660 ppb of Xylenes in June, 1994.
