t
WORKP N OR REM VAL OF ADDITIONAL CONTAMINATED SPOIL OM SITE
OF FOrrxi U5.
Jim Thorpe Oil, Inc. equipment & personel will be used to perform
the work as proposed below. Certificates of insurance & con-
tractor's licence information are on file with San Joaquin
County. All work will be performed under the direction &
supervision of a Registered Geologist from Wm. J. Hunter &
Associates. A general health & safety plan is attached.
1 . The locations of all known underground utilities, water &
sewer lines will be determined prior to beginning work. Extreme
care will be exercised during excavation to avoid contact with
known & unknown lines, etc.
2. Spoil will be removed using a backhoe bucket or excavator; it
will be stored on site on plastic in the general area shown on
PLAN,.,,.,II. Any removed asphalt, concrete, or other foreign
materials will be separated from removed spoil, if possible.
3. It is planned to enlarge the existing excavation approxi-
mately 3 feet to the west & east, as close to the building as
possible on the south, and 7 feet to the north, as shown on PLATE
III . The final size and configuration will depend upon
conditions encountered as work progresses, as directed by the
Geologist in charge. It is estimated that about 140 cubic yards
of material will be removed.
4. Groundwater was measured at 13. 5' below grade in September_
It is planned to excavate to a depth of at least 15 feet in order
to remove as much spoil as possible. CLays & silty clays were
logged down to and below 15 feet during placement of the three
monitoring wells on the site; significant caving of the sides of
the excavation is not anticipated.
5. Upon completion of excavating operations, soil samples will
be collected at the approximate locations shown onT
as directed by the Geologist
nCounty
E
y or
Samples will be collected fromtheteethof the reprbackhoe ibucket or
excavator by pushing a clean metal tube into the material to
obtain a representative sample. The tube will be promptly sealed
with teflon tape & plastic end caps, & thoroughly wrapped with
duct tape. The sample will be labeled & placed on ice in a
closed container pending transport to the laboratory.
6. The preserved samples will be transported under chain of
custody to FGL Environmental laboratory with instructions to
3
