ii) The largest potential spill would be from the rupture of a drum due
to overturning during handling (manually or with a forklift). A
maximum of 55 gallons of oil could be spilled, and the oil would be
contained in the separator.
c) Hazardous -Waste Storage Building
Twelve to twenty-eight 55 -gallon drums of miscellaneous liquid residue
generated by the garage, electric, and gas operation crews are stored in
two bays of a 15' by 45' three bay building. These drums typically
contain: diesel and water mix; brake fluid; and mineral oil; etc. There
could also be drums of PCB contaminated oil stored here. Hazardous
wastes are temporarily stored here prior to shipment to a licensed
hazardous waste disposal facility. Proper barricades are posted.
One bay is used to store thirty to fourty-four 55 -gallon drums of new
products such as: transmission oil; solvent; motor oil; hydraulic oil;
anti -freeze; brake cleaner; insulating oil; etc., and two 140 -gallon and
two70-gallon bulk motor oil dispensers.
The building has a depressed floor with an impermeable coating that
would contain any oil spilled within the building.
Possible Spil; Occurrence:
i) Small spills could occur during transfer of waste from a smaller
container to a drum. A maximum of 5 gallons could be spilled and
would be contained within the building.
ii) The largest potential spill would be from the rupture of a drum due
to overturning during handling (manually or with a forklift). A
maximum of 140 gallons could be spilled. Interior spills would be
contained within the building.
d) Transformer Oil Handling Area
One to two 55 -gallon drums of used insulating oil may be temporarily
stored in this area during the pumping process. These drums could
contain PCB contaminated oil. This oil is drained from returned electrical
equipment. The area is a concrete slab surrounded by concrete curbs.
There is a valve installed in the curb to release uncontaminated
rainwater.
3-7
