Possible Spill Occurrence:
i) Small spills could occur during transfer of oil from equipment to
the drum. A maximum of 5 gallons could be spilled and the oil
would be contained in the curbed area.
ii) The largest potential spill would be from the rupture of a drum due
to overturning during handling (manually or with a forklift). A
maximum of 55 gallons of oil could be spilled, and the oil would be
contained in the curbed area.
7) Oil -Filled Eguioment in Storage
a) Storage Area #1 North of the Electric Department Storage
Building
Approximately 1,200 pieces of new or refurbished oil -filled electrical
equipment are stored as working stock on this asphalt paved area. This
area drains to an oil/water separator located at the west end of the yard.
The separator would contain any oil spilled within this area. The amount
of oil -filled equipment stored in this area varies. The volume of oil in the
various pieces of equipment ranges from 10 to 220 gallons.
Possible Spill Occurrence:
i) Overturning during The volume of oil that could reasonably
handling with a be expected to spill is 10-220 gallons.
forklift: Operations and maintenance personnel are
trained in safe operation of forklifts to avoid
such occurrences. Spills would be contained
by the underground oil/water separator located
at the west end of the yard. The separator has
ample holding capacity for the maximum spill
that may occur.
ii) Leakage during Any equipment that shows signs of
storage: leakage is immediately drained of oil or placed
in a plastic -lined wood box. The storage area
is inspected daily for signs of leakage. No
more than 5 to 10 gallons of oil could
reasonably be expected to leak before it would
be discovered. Any leakage would be
contained by the oil/water separator located at
the west end of the yard.
M
