The amount of oil -filled equipment stored in this area
varies. The volume of oil in the various pieces of equipment ranges from
20 to 1 ,1 20 gallons.
Possible Spill Occurrence:
i) Overturning during
The volume of oil that could reasonably
handling with a
be expected to spill is 20-1,120
forklift or
gallons. Operations and maintenance
boom truck:
personnel are trained in safe operation of
forklifts and boom trucks to avoid such
occurrences. Spills would be contained by the
underground oil/water separator located in the
yard. The separator has ample holding
capacity for the maximum spill that may occur.
ii) Leakage during
Any equipment that shows signs of
storage:
leakage is immediately drained of oil or placed
in a plastic -lined wood box. The storage area
is inspected daily for signs of leakage. No
more than 5 to 10 gallons of oil could
reasonably be expected to leak before it would
be discovered. Any leakage would be
contained by the oil/water separator located in
the yard.
c) Storage Area #3 West of the Transformer Repair Buildinq
Approximately 40 pieces of returned or refurbished electrical equipment
are stored for repair on this concrete paved area. This area drains to an
oil/water separator located at the west end of the yard. The separator
would contain any oil spilled within this area. The amount of oil -filled
equipment stored in this area varies. The returned equipment has been
taken out of service for reasons of failure or replacement and is being
returned for repair or disposal. The majority of the returned equipment is
placed in plastic -lined wood boxes as secondary containment. The
volume of oil in the various pieces of equipment ranges from 10 to 230
gallons.
Me
