A mobil substation (T-4-2913) trailer and a tractor are parked next to
the Mobil Substation (IT.5.0-6), until needed for emergencies. This mobil
substation consists of a transformer with 1,710 gallons of transformer
oil.
These mobil substations are designed for outdoor use and to withstand
transportation, it is unlikely that leaks would develop while in storage.
The remote potential of a casing rupture could result in spill volumes
between 0-4195 gallons. The size of such a rupture on a transformer in
storage should be small. Since these transformers are located in a
visible area of the yard, any spill would be noticed promptly and
maintenance personnel could immediately attend to these spills. In event
of a major spill, Emergency Plan Section 4 will be implemented.
vi. Operating Transformers
The transformer bank has three aboveground transformers and regulators
for 60KV to 12KV local distribution substation. These transformers are
mounted on concrete pads and protected in a rock: blotter. The regulators
are also mounted on concrete pads. The entire area is surrounded by an
8 -inch wood berm, filled with 7 -inches of earthen materials. The total
volume of transformer oil in these equipment is 13,473 gallons.
There is a step-down transformer located in the southwest corner of the
yard. It is used to furnish electrical power to this Service Center.
This transformer contains 265 gallons of transformer oil.
These transformers are manufactured for outdoor use and must retain oil
to operate properly. It is unlikely that leaks would develop. The
highest potential for spillage is during a casing rupture.
vii. Transformer Storage Areas
There are four areas used to store large quantities of oil filled
transformers. Three areas, used to maintain an inventory of oil filled
transformers which may be required at job sites, are as follows:
1. Transformer Storage Area 1:
This storage area is located in the northwest corner of the yard.
Approximately 600 transformers containing from 3 to 50 gallons of
transformer oil each are stored around the helicopter pad.
2. Transformer Storage Area 2:
This area is located in the southeast corner of the yard.
Approximately 150 transformers containing 100 to 1,517 gallons of.
transformer oil each are stored on concrete parking island dividers.
This area is bermed on the north, south and west sides and slopes
down to a catch basin on the west side.
REV. 11-87
3-6
