The highest spill potential associated with the waste oil storage tanks
is from overfilling during oil transfer from the underground tank to the
contractor's tanker truck. This type of spill will be prevented or
minimized by having Materials Department personnel standing by during
drainage of the waste oil tanks. Spill size will be limited to between
0-5 gallons. Materials Department personnel are instructed and prepared
to attend to these spills immediately should they occur.
iii. Underground Hydraulic Fluid Storage Tank,
This is a 1000 gallon hydraulic fluid storage tank located near the
northwest corner of the Auto Repair Shop. It is used for replenishing
fluid in hydraulic equipment under repair. The highest spill potential
is during the refilling process. This type of spill will be between 0-5
gallons as Materials Department personnel will standby during refilling
process. Materials Department personnel are instructed and prepared to
attend to these spills immediately should they occur.
iv. Aboveground Oil and Gasoline Storage Tanks
A 1000 gallon, gasoline tanker truck located east of the garage is used
for refueling vehicles. This tanker is equipped with automatic shut-off
valves to minimize over -filling vehicles/ prevent spills. The highest
spill potential associated with the tanker is from overfilling the tanker
or residual hose drainage. However, Maintenance personnel also make
available a bucket in which to rest hoses to prevent spills of residual
fuel. Spill sizes vary from 0-5 gallons. Maintenance personnel are
instructed and prepared to attend to these spills immediately.
There is a 250 gallon motor oil storage tank for diesel vehicles and a 60
gallon motor oil storage tank for unleaded vehicles located in the wash
rack room, inside the Auto Repair Shop. The greatest spill potential is
during refilling of the tanks by the supplier. This type of spill may
vary between 0-5 gallons and is in a highly visible area. In addition,
this room slopes to a wash rack sump which will retain the oil for later
removal. Maintenance personnel are instructed and prepared to attend to
these spills immediately should they occur.
V.
