Wildwood LNG Demonstration Facility
5.6 Water-Glycol Cooling Loop System
The purpose of the water-glycol cooling loop system is to remove heat from the refrigeration
system. The system consists of four heat exchangers, one pump, and a surge tank. The cooling
liquid is a mixture of 90% water and 10% glycol. Table 7 presents the design information used
for the cooling loop system.
The circulation pump recovers cooling fluid in the surge tank. The pump circulates
approximately 80 gpm through an air cooler. The air cooler rejects approximately 2,000,000
Btuihour to the atmosphere. The cooling water is then split between several heat exchangers that
cool the compressor oil, the expander oil, and refrigeration nitrogen after compression. The
cooling water than returns to the surge tank. Make-up water and glycol will be added to the
surge tank as required. Water and glycol will not be stored on the site, but will be delivered by
truck as needed. The surge tank includes one emergency safety relief valve that will vent to the
atmosphere if overpressure is encountered in the tank.
Table 7
Design Information for the Cooling Loop System
Equipment Equipment Name Pressure—(PSIG) Temperature (°F) Flow Rate
Number Operating/Design Operating/Design
90-1901 Circulation Pump 55/100 85/125 110 gpm
90-3201 Air Cooler 55/100 85/125 110 gpm
30-3207 Expander Oil 55/100 85/125 110 gpm
Cooler
30-3211 Compressor Oil 55/100 85/125 110 gpm
Cooler
30-3209 Refrigeration 55/100 85/125 110 gpm
Nitrogen Cooler
5.7 Product Storage Tank
The proposed project will utilize a cryogenic tank for storage of the LNG product. It will be
manufactured by Process Engineering of Plaistow, New Hampshire in accordance with NFPA
59A, Chapter 10. The nominal capacity of the tank is 15,000 gallons. Its approximate
dimensions are 10 feet in diameter by 37 feet long. The tank will be fitted with appropriate
control valves and instrumentation as indicated in Figures 7 and 8.
AES Construction Group
Page 10
