March 19, 2009
Environmental• Engineering• Geology Project Number 2009007
Rainfall Contribution
Rainfall data was collected from the Western Regional Climate Center. Evapotranspiration data
from the California Irrigation Management Information System. Data was collected from the
closest station to the subject property. The data is used to determine the amount of possible
percolation. On months that precipitation exceeds evapotranspiration, the additional amount of
rainfall is consisted the amount which could percolate into the subsurface. For this calculation
runoff is ignored(more conservative). The data is located in the Appendix.
Based on the researched data, the average percolation of rain is estimated to be 6.59 inches per
year. The average amount of nitrate contained within rain is considered to be 1 mg/L.
✓Current On-site Sources of Nitrate
Currently, there are two residences and a vineyard.
Future On-site Sources of Nitrate
In addition to the present sources of Nitrate, the proposed bouquet winery will provide an
additional amount of Nitrate to the site. Based on the information provided by the client, there
will be no employees (the bouquet winery will be operated by the current occupants of the
property) and the winery is designed to produce a maximum amount of 3,500 gallons of wine a
year. Based on the winemaking process the bulk of the wastewater will be generated during
harvest and for several weeks thereafter, and again during racking and barrel washing about two
to three months after harvest. Bottling may occur at any time throughout the year however this
will occur offsite. Bas .n-the_tot4 amount bottled of 3,500 gallons an anticipated amount of
wastewater would be 21,000 gallon pe year (6 to 1 ratio). The maximum average daily amount
JR SQUARED CONSULTING,INC. ENVIRONMENTAL•ENGINEERING•GEOLOGY
6532 MCNEIL COURT,VALLEY SPRINGS,CA 95252 PHONE(209)772-3841•FAX(209)740-4303
