2
JR Page 6
Consulting, Inc. March 19, 2009
Environmental• Engineering• Geology Project Number 2009007
of wastewater generat a approximately 115 gallon, based on 6 months of wastewater
production. s wastewater will be 1 d applied elsewhere on the property under the direction
of the Regional Water Quality Control Board and is included in the nitrate loading study as a
additional source of nitrogen to the subject site. In addition the building would be considered an
industrial building with an average effluent of 13 gallons per day per employee (for this
calculation one employee is used) and an average of 2 visitors per day adding 5 gallons per day
per visitor. A total of 138 gallons per day of effluent is anticipated.
The average total nitrogen concentration of domestic waste water is considered 20-85
mg/L of N with 35 to 45 mg/L of N typical. The average total nitrogen concentration of winery
waste water is considered 1-40 mg/L of N. The winery making is planned to occur as time is
available during the season therefore lower concentrations of Nitrogen is anticipated over the
whole season instead of a high concentration followed by a period of low concentrations as is
typical in winery wastewater production. For this project a average of 25 mg/L of N is
anticipated of the life of the system.
V Based on the fine sand sized particles in the soil, denitrification is anticipated to occur to
a limited extent. Typical denitrification is within the 10 to 35 percent range. For this site, 15
percent denitrifaction of the soils and wastewater is anticipated.
Mass Balance of Nitrogen Loading
A mass balance of nitrogen loading was performed to determine the impact from the
proposed project. The data discussed above was imported into a mass balance calculation and is
presented below:
JR SQUARED CONSULTING,INC.
