MgO2 filter socks will release oxygen to the environment !(gm a dwater) as it is chemically
converted to magnesium hydroxide Mg(OH)2. The following equation shows the chemical ,
I
r transformation:
MgO, + H2O -4 1/2 02 + Mg(OHj
f ! :
As the MgO2 is exposed to moisture, the filter sock solidifies as;it converts to magnesium 5
hydroxide. The life expectancy of the MgO2 in the filter socks i; expected to be t
approximately six months. j h
The ORC* filter socks will be installed in each of the six groundwater monitoring wells at the
site. Groundwater in each of the wells will be monitored for key parameters for a period of
twelve months following initial installation of the filter socks. Section 2.0 describes in detail,
the installation of the filter socks, and sampling of the groundwater. The effectiveness of the
filter socks as a remedial alternative will then be evaluated.
r
2.4 Site Act VMOS
i
The site activities will include the installation of the filter socks in each of the groundwater
monitoring wells at the site, and periodic monitoring of the groundwater to evaluate the
effectiveness of the filter socks on the TPH as diesel concentrations measured at the site.
Results from the periodic monitoring will be reported in the quarterly monitoring reports.
Following completion of the monitoring, the results will be evaluated and summarized in a
final effectiveness evaluation report. 1 ;
'i
i
2.1 Preconstruction Submittals
Prior to the initiation of field activities, thislan will be approved Y Bergh roved b Van den Ber h Foods
P
and San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD)
representatives.
