Spectrum Exploration Inc drilled the soil borings All of the drilling equipment was
decontaminated prior to mobilization to the site. No underground utilities were encountered
' during drilling. Soil cuttings were stored in a 10 yard roll-off bin provided by Delta
Container Corporation
Argon Laboratories, a DHS certified laboratory, set up a mobile laboratory to perform on-site
' sample analyses.
A tailgate health and safety meeting was held pnor to the commencement of site activities.
Modified level D personal protective equipment was used during the field activities, pursuant
to the site-specific health and safety plan (HASP).
2.2.2 Soll Boring Installation
' Two soil borings SB-1 and SB-2 (Figure 2) were drilled using a CMI&75 hollow-stem auger
ng. The soil borings were drilled using a continuous core sampling barrel for hthologic
' characterization and collection of chemical and bioassessment samples In addition, relatively
undisturbed soil samples were collected for geotechnical testing from boring SB-1 using a 140
lb. slide hammer attached to a California modified split-spoon sampler. Both SB-1 and SB-2
rwere drilled to total depths of 64.5 feet below ground surface (bgs) without encountering
water. The soil borings were logged using the Unified Soil Classification System
' (Appendix B) Based on the results obtained from the mobile laboratory, proposed soil
borings SB-3 and SB-4 were not drilled.
' w completed, the boreholes were abandoned in accordance with State and
After the borings were co p ted,
County guidelines A grout mixture (Type I/H Portland cement with a three to five percent
bentonite-clay mixed and six to eight gallons of water per sack of cement) was used to
' abandon each boring. The grout mixture was fed into each borehole through a tremae hose as
the augers were pulled from the borehole. Additional grout was placed in each borehole after
settlement occurred to ensure that each borehole was finished to grade.
2.2.21 Soll Sampling and Chemical Analyses
Sampling depths were selected in order to characterize current chemical conditions in the
vadose zone, and verify previously reported analytical data. Samples were collected at the
following depths in each soil boring- 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, and 64 feet, respectively.
Mz111-20-95/VDBF/95.OM7 3
