Samples were collected in 2- by 6-inch decontaminated brass sleeves. The samples were
described and promptly sealed with teflon tape and plastic end caps. The samples were
' individually placed in "ziplock" bags and stored in an ice chest with water ice until delivery
to the mobile laboratory for analysis. Cham-of-custody records were maintamed for all
' samples (Appendix Q.
Soil samples were analyzed on-site by the mobile laboratory The samples were analyzed for
TPH as gasoline and TPH as diesel using modified EPA method 8015 and benzene, toluene,
' ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) using EPA method 8020 Target detection limits were i
mg/Kg for TPH as gasoline, 5 mg/Kg for TPH as diesel, and 0 005 mg/Kg for BTEX The
laboratory analytical reports are presented in Appendix D.
2.2.22 Solt Sampling and Bloassessment Analyses
' Bioassessment samples were also collected from boring SB-I at depths of 15, 30 and 50 feet,
respectively, and installed in sterile glass containers. The samples were described, sealed
' individually in "ziplock" bags, packed on ice and shipped via overnight courser to the IT
Biotechnology Applications Center located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Chain-of-custody
records were maintained for all samples (Appendix Q.
The bioassessment testing included pH, soil moisture, residual nutrient determinations,
' microbial enumeration, and microbial stimulation. The bioassessment besting was performed
to preliminarily evaluate the feasibility of biodegradation of TPH in site soils Appendix E
' provides the Bioassessment Report.
' 2.2.23 Sol! Sampling and Geotechnical Analyses
Geotechnical samples were collected at approximate depths of 15, 30, 50 and 55 feet from
' SB-1. Four relatively undisturbed soil samples were collected from boring SB-1 and shipped
to Vector Engineering Inc., located in Grass Valley, California, for geotechmcal testing using
' ASTM methods. Chain-of-custody records were maintained for all samples (Appendix Q.
Each sample was tested for: 1) Total Organic Content (ASTM D-2974); 2) Hydrometer
Analysis (ASTM D-422); 3) Atterberg Limits (ASTM D-4318); and 4) Tnaxial Permeability,
' undisturbed (ASTM D-5084) Four brass sleeves per sample were collected, packed tightly,
and shipped to the laboratory. The laboratory report is presented in Appendix F.
MZ111-20-95IMBF)95-0M7 4
