Heat Cramps. Heat cramps are caused by heavy sweating and inadequate electrolyte <br /> replacement Signs and symptoms include muscle spasms and pain in the hands, feet and <br /> abdomen <br /> ' Heat Exhaustion. Heat exhaustion occurs from increased stress on various body organs <br /> Signs and symptoms include. <br /> • Pale, cool, moist skin, <br /> • Heavy sweating, <br /> • Dizziness, nausea, and/or <br /> • Fainting. <br /> Heat Stroke. Heat stroke is the most serious form of heat stress and should always be <br /> treated as a medical emergency The body's temperature regulation system fails, and the <br /> body temperature rapidly rises to critical levels. Immediate action must be taken to cool the <br /> body before serious injury or death occurs Signs and symptoms of heat stroke include- <br /> • Red, hot unusually dry skin, <br /> • Lack of, or reduced perspiration, <br /> • Nausea, <br /> • Dizziness and confusion, <br /> • Strong, rapid pulse and/or <br />' Coma <br /> Sunburn. Operations will require IT and subcontractor employees to work outside during <br /> daylight hours, typically seven to nine hours per day Under these conditions, workers are at <br /> great risk for developing sunburn on unprotected skin, even during autumn <br /> Sunburn is a burn to the skin caused by overexposure to ultra-violet light (sunshine) The <br />' symptoms of exposure are not usually apparent until two to four hours after the exposure <br /> ceases Depending upon the seventy of the exposure the symptoms can range from reddening <br />' of the skin accompanied by mild discomfort, to painful deep bums and blisters Although <br /> light-haired, fair-skinned, blue-eyed personnel are at the greatest risk of sunburn, all <br /> complexion types can develop sunburn if the exposure is long and intense enough <br /> Sunscreen products with sun protection factor ratings of 15 or higher will be available to <br /> project personnel Areas or primary concem include, nose, cheeks, ears and the back of the <br /> M7/11-29-94/RHS/HASP/94-0037 JAF 3_6 <br /> 1 <br />
