1 <br /> 3.2.7 Confined Space Entry <br /> It is not anticipated that any work conducted during this project will require entry into a <br /> S confined space A confined space is defined as an enclosure which is large enough for an <br /> employee to enter, but which has limited means of access and egress and is not designed for <br /> continuous employee occupancy <br /> A permit-required confined space is a confined space as defined above which also contains <br /> _ one or more health and/or safety hazards. This can include chemical, mechanical, electrical, <br /> or other hazards Entry into any confined space on this project is prohibited unless otherwise <br /> noted in the HASP addenda. <br /> 3.2.8 Noise <br /> Nearby traffic and excavation activities associated with the project may generate loud noise <br />' Exposure to sound levels above 85 dBA can cause temporary unpairment of hearing <br /> Prolonged and repeated exposure to sound levels above 85 dBA can cause permanent hearing <br /> damage The risk and severity of hearing loss increases with the intensity and duration of the <br /> exposure In addition to damaging hearing, noise can impair voice commurucation, thereby <br /> increasing the risk of incidents <br />' 3.2.9 Heat and Cold Stress <br /> Weanng personal protective equipment (PPE) can put site personnel at considerable risk of <br /> heat stress and heat related illnesses if proper precautions are not implemented Heat related <br />' illnesses range from transient heat fatigue to heat stroke and death. Heat related illnesses are <br /> caused by a number of interacting factors which include environmental conditions, clothing, <br /> work load, and characteristics of the individual worker <br /> Individuals vary in their susceptibility to heat stress. Factors that influence an individuals <br /> tolerance for heat include physical fitness, diet, alcohol/drug use, sleeping habits, acclimation, <br /> genetics, medical condition, age and weight. <br /> The signs of heat stress disorders are given below <br /> tMW11-29-94/RHS/HASP/94-0037.JAF 3_5 <br /> 1 <br />
