Box 2009 <br />Stockton, California 95201 <br />Attention: Ms. Laurie Cottula <br />Woodward -Clyde Consultants <br />PIEZOMETER INSTALLATION PERMIT <br />PORT OF STOCKTON <br />STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA <br />Dear Ms. Cottula: <br />Woodward -Clyde Consultants (WCC) has been retained to assist the <br />Stockton Port District by conducting an investigation of groundwater <br />elevations in the petroleum tank terminal area at the Port of Stockton. <br />This letter is submitted at the request of Ms. Laurie Cottula (San Joaquin <br />Local Health District) in support of the piezometer installation permit <br />application. <br />Our investigation~ involves the installation of3� <br />rs to <br />monitor fluctuations in groundwater elevation�and'odetermineerlocal <br />groundwater flow directions. Piezometer installation specifications and the <br />monitoring procedures are discussed below. A site plan and piezometer <br />construction diagram are included as Figures 1 and 2. <br />Thirty-two piezometers will be installed in an array surrounding the tank <br />terminal area (Figure 1) at the Port of Stockton. Installation specifications <br />and monitoring procedures for the piezometers will be as follows: <br />The piezometers will be constructed of 1 -inch diameter Schedule <br />80 PVC pipe and installed to a depth of about 10 feet. The <br />screened interval will be 5 feet in length and a 5 -foot length of <br />blank casing will extend from the screen to the ground surface <br />(Figure 2). <br />The piezometers will be installed with assistance from a licensed <br />(C-57) drilling company (Kvilhaug Drilling of Concord, <br />California). A fence post driver will be used to install the <br />piezometers to total depths of about 10 feet. The natural soil <br />materials will provide the filter pack; additional backfill material <br />should not be necessary. <br />Consulting Engineers.
