The QMR discusses the
groundwater monitoring activities conducted in February and the status of the bioaugmentation
pilot study. The Report discusses the monitoring associated with evaluating the effectiveness of
the bioaugmentation pilot study. We have the following comments on these reports:
1. The QMR shows analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline by EPA
Method 8260. Although Monitoring and Reporting Program No. R5-2004-0822 has a
typographical error and lists analysis of TPH as diesel twice by EPA Method 8015, the
second"TPH as diesel" should be "TPH as gasoline." Therefore, ST Services needs to
analyze TPH as gasoline by EPA Method 8015.
2. Section 4.0 of the Report states the March 2005 potassium concentrations are "similar to"
the pre-pilot study potassium concentrations. However, the Conclusion Section of the
Report states the injected nutrients decreased to or are below baseline concentrations.
The discussion of the nutrient concentrations must be more specific for the comparison or
pre and post pilot study monitoring.
California Environmental Protection Agency
ra Recycled Paper
