Geological rechaks Inc.
Soil&Groundwater W.P. Page 3
Project No. 989.2
March 29,2004
The boreholes will be drilled with a GeoProbe rig owned and operated by a Iicensed drilling
L. contractor. The GeoProbe advances a coring tool with a pneumatic hammer to a selected
depth. Upon reaching that depth the coring tool is opened and advanced further to fill the
core barrel. The soil sample enters an acetate cylinder contained in the coring tool. Upon
LM filling, the coring tool is pulled from the hole and the cylinder is removed. The cylinder is
then cut and the selected interval is capped with Teflon foil and plastic end caps and placed
on ice for shipment to the laboratory. The remainder is used for geologic logging.
LW The GeoProbe borings will be advanced to a total depth of 10 feet bgs. Due to the shallow
depth to groundwater the borings will be continuously cored to insure that a sample is
collected from the capillary fringe. With the GeoProbe it is just as easy to continuous core
60, as it is to core from selected intervals. One soil sample from each borehole will be
submitted to the laboratory for analysis.
Upon reaching the capillary fringe, a hydropunch type sampling tool will be advanced into
the groundwater and a groundwater sample will be collected from each borehole. The
samples are collected from a mini stainless steel bailer or Waterra© type check ball on poly
La tubing, and gently transferred into VOA vials. The VOA vial is capped, inverted, tapped,
and checked for headspace bubbles. The vial will be labeled and placed on ice for shipment
to the laboratory. Clean surgical gloves are worn at all times in handling of the sample and
sampling equipment. The bailer is cleaned between uses with an Alconox solution.
2.1.1 Soil Laboratory Analyses
One soil sample from each borehole will be submitted to a state certified laboratory for the
following analysis:
Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTEX)by EPA method 8020
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-G)by EPA method 503018015(m)
LA • Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(MTBE) by EPA method 8020.
• Positive results for MTBE will be confirmed by EPA method 8260.
- A Chain of Custody will be completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure
sample integrity.
LM 2.1.2 Groundwater Sample Analyses
One groundwater sample from each borehole will be submitted to a state certified laboratory
for the following analysis:
. • Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA method 8020
• Gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH-Gas)by EPA method 5030/8015(m)
• Fuel oxygenates be EPA method 8260
L' • MtBE, ETBE, DIPE, TAME, TBA, 1,2-DCA and EDB
A Chain of Custody will be completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure
L. sample integrity.
r.
LW
