Page 2
Valley Wholesale Drug
Project No.: 989.2
March 26,2002
August 25, 1998 — Three soil/water GeoProbes (GP-1, GP-2 & GP-3) were placed along the
south side of the building in an attempt to better define the limits of the soil and groundwater
plume.
August 15, 2000 — Three additional groundwater monitoring wells (MW-4, MW-5 & MW-6)
were installed along the east side of the building in an attempt to better define the lateral limits
of the groundwater plume.
November 21, 2001 —A work plan for monitoring well installation was submitted to SJC-EHD.
February 27, 2002 — The work plan was approved for the installation of three (3) shallow
monitoring wells.
Proposed Direction of Project
To further investigate the lateral extent of soil and groundwater impacted with gasoline range
petroleum hydrocarbons, Geological Technics Inc. proposes the installation of three (3) shallow
monitoring wells.
1. Monitoring well installation.
• Install three (3) shallow monitoring wells to a depth of 20-feet bgs. Log boreholes
based on 5 foot coring interval soil sample collection.
• Install one (1) deep monitoring well to a depth of 40-feet bgs. Log boreholes based on 5
foot coring interval soil sample collection.
• Submit up to two (2) soil samples from each of the monitoring wells to a laboratory for
analysis. Soil samples will be tested for:
❑ BTEX (EPA method 8020)
❑ TPH-Gasoline (EPA method 503018015m)
❑ Oxygenates (5), 1,2 DCA and EDB (EPA method 8260)
• Develop the four new wells.
• Survey the top of casing of existing and new wells as required under AB2886.
• Prepare and submit a site characterization report on the installation of the four (4) new
monitoring wells.
2. Perform groundwater monitoring.
• Purge and sample the ten (10) monitoring wells on a quarterly basis for one year.
• Submit the groundwater samples from one event to Sherwood labs for:
❑ BTEX, TPH-G (EPA 602 & 8015) and the five oxygenates, 1,2 DCA and EDB (EPA
8260)
• Submit the groundwater samples from the other three events to Sherwood labs for:
❑ BTEX, MTBE and TPH-G (EPA 602 & 8015)
Prior to installation of the monitoring wells it will be necessary to obtain access agreements
from the property owners. This work will be performed by GTI on a time and materials basis.
Proposed Bidding of Project
1. To remain in compliance with the USTCFP, Geological Technics Inc. requested V&W
Drilling to prepare estimates for drilling and installing the groundwater monitoring wells.
We have found V&W to be very cost effective for three primary reasons:
