Site Code: 1782
1401 Fremont St W
Stockon CA 95203
San Joaquin County Public Health Services,Environmental Health Division(PHS/EHD) has
reviewed Sect>rxi Quarter 2001 Ma*airi gRepcm(the report) dated August 8,2001 prepared by Wm J.
Hunter&Associates. Analytical results of groundwater samples collected from monitoring wells
MW 4,MW 5,and MW 6,were 66 nucrograms per liter(µg/I),32 µg/1,and 240 gg/1,respectively.
The results were consistent with the two previous sampling results since August 2000 when the three
above-mentioned monitoring wells were installed. MTBE and other oxygenates were not detected in
the water samples collected from MW-1,MW 2,and MW-3.
In the report,Wm J.Hunter"suggests" the MTBE is the result of"an offsite source" since MW-6,
which has the highest concentration of MTBE,is also the furthest well from the tank site. The
report reconunended conducting a"receptor survey" for an offsite source to the northwest, north,
and northeast of the site.
PHS/EHD does not consider the on-site contamination plume to be off-site in origin until an offsite
source has been identified and proven to be the source of your contamination. Meanwhile, you are
required to define the extent of the contamination plume. Submit a work plan that will define the
extent of the contamination plume to PHS/EHD by November 20,2001.
PHS/EHD has no comment on conducting a"receptor survey" for an offsite source.
A sampling quarter was not conducted between January 2001 and June 2001. You are required to
sample the monitoring wells on a quarterly basis in accordance to California Code of Regulation,
Title 23,Chapter 16,Section 2652(4),and PHS/EHD letter dated March 31,2000.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209)468-0335.
Donna Heran,REHS,Directors
Environmental Health Division
rjeffC c-
reyWong,
Senior RENS Maare gorio,RE
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: RWQCB,Central Valley Region-Marty Hartzell
c: Wm J.Hunter&Associates - Bill Hunter
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
