i
4 Soil borings #1 , 2, 3, & 4, (refer to PLATE VI , ) will be
taken as close to the capillary fringe as possible an order to
obtain a soil sample If field evidence warrants , a water sample
may be taken by use of a hydropunch or similar type device
After sampling, each soil boring will be grouted from bottom to
the surface with a bentonite/cement slurry as directed by a
representative of the County EHD
5 Monitoring wells ##1 , 2, & 3 will be advanced an the same
manner as the soil borings, samples taken every 5 ' from 5 ' bgl to
the capillary fringe After verifying water depth, each soil
boring will be advanced a minimum of 10 feet below the water
table
6 Upon reaching the desired depth, 2" blank & slotted, flush
screw-thread PVC casing, fitted with a threaded bottom cap, will
be run an the hole When bottom as reached, the casing will be
pulled up slightly to avoid the possibility of buckling or laying
against the side of the hole The annular space between casing
and augers will be filled with clean, graded, #2 1/2 or #3 sand
The casing will be constantly vibrated during sand placement to
eliminate bridging and voids Fill depths will be monitored
constantly as the auger flights are slowly withdrawn When sand
fall has stabilized, (a minimum of 2 ' above the top of the
slots , ) a bentonite seal will be placed, and the annular space
filled to the surface with a cement/bentonite slurry Refer to
PLATE VII for a schematic of each well completion
7 Each well will be fitted with a precast Christy-type box,
with the casing extending into the box far enough to allow
placement of a locking cover The casing & box will be
thoroughly grouted into place to ensure the integrity of the
seal
8 Within 18-24 hours after completion, each well will be
developed by use of a hard rubber cup or other suitable device
Purge fluids will be placed an suitably marked sealed containers
& stored on location pending results of the laboratory analyzes
9 Preserved soil samples will be transported under chain of
custody to a State Certified laboratory with instructions to
analyze for BTEX (EPA 8020, ) & TPH-G (EPA 8015M, ) using current
County approved detection limits
9 As soon as practical after development, each well will be
purged, water levels determined, and samples taken per standard
WJH field protocol , a copy of which as attached as EXHIBIT D
The properly preserved water samples will be transported under
5
