readings indicated that contamination was present in the soil and possibly
groundwater. After reviewing the workplan and discussing options with Jeff Wong of
the SJCEHD , it was decided to convert the soil boring into a monitoring well. Mr
Wong then left the site at 1055.
After completion of coring operations, 2", blank & slotted PVC casing was run in the
hole. Perforations extended from 30' to 5'; from 5' to the surface was blank. Details
of the well construction are shown on PLATE VI.
While augers & coring equipment were being decontaminated, the drill rig was
located at the north end of the property on MW-6 at 1155 - (see PLATE I for its
location.) The hole was hand-augered to 4' below grade, and then 8" augers were
run to 5' below grade, and the first core taken. Augers were advanced, and
additional cores taken at 10', 15', 20', & 25' using the same field protocol described
above. Refer to PLATE IV for blow counts, lithology, odors & PID readings.
The well was completed in the same manner as MW-4 & MW-5, as shown on PLATE
VII. After completion of MW-6, all wells were grouted from the top of the bentonite
seal to the surface with a cement/bentonite slurry. Well boxes were installed and
concreted to the surface. The tops of the casings were fitted with a screw cap and
traffic covers. Jeff Wong returned to the site at 1400 to authorize the testing of all
15 soil samples for BTEX, TPH-g, 5 oxygenates, 1,2 DCA & EDB by EPA 8260B.
Unused soil samples and drill solids were placed in metal drums and stored on site
for later disposal. The rig and crew left the site at 1500. Mark Jerpbak transported
the preserved soil samples to JJW, Inc. office where they were securely stored until
August 18, when they were transfered under chain of custody to Kiff Analytical
laboratory for analysis. A copy of the custody chain, transmittal letter, and soil
sample results are included as EXHIBIT D.
On July 27, 2000, Don Light of Del-Tech Geotechnical Support Services performed
the semi-annual sampling of MW-1, MW-2, & MW-3. Details of that work is included
in EXHIBIT E. On August 18, Mr. Light developed, purged, and sampled MW-4,
MW-5, & MW-6. The field reports, laboratory analyses & chain of custody for that
work will be discussed below, and is also included in EXHIBIT E.
i
The surface coordinates and wellhead elevations were measured by Wong Engineers,
licensed surveyors; a copy of that survey plat is included as EXHIBIT F.
ANALYSIS & DISCUSSION OF THE RESULTS OF THE ABOVE WORK:
PLATE I shows the depths to groundwater and the hydraulic gradient based upon
the July &August sampling events. The gradient is very consistently to the
Wm. I Hunter&Associates 4
