Figure 1 is a map showing the location of the site.
The scope of work included collection of soil samples from the product piping trenches and
beneath the product dispensers, and sampling the soil stockpile generated during the fiber
trench/piping replacement. The fiber trench/piping replacement work was performed by
American Environmental Construction.
Field Activities
Construction activities began October 2, 1995 and included replacement of the single wall
product lines and fibertrench containment system with double wall fiberglass product lines.
Prior to construction, ARCO submitted a letter(dated March 1, 1995) describing the proposed
work to Ms. Diane Hinson of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental
Health Division (County). Ms. Hinson verbally approved the letter as a work plan in a ?
May 12, 1995 telephone conversation. A copy of the March 1, 1995 letter is included with
this letter as Appendix A.
On October 5, 1995, a representative from BC was on-site. Soil samples were collected from
product line trenches and beneath product dispensers in the locations presented on Figure 2.
A portion of this sampling was witnessed by Mr. Michael Kith from the County. Soil samples
were collected as per the State of California Regional Water Quality Control Board Staff
Recommendations for Initial Evaluation and Investigation of Underground Tanks, August
1990 (Tri-Regional Guidelines). The Tri-Regional Guidelines specify collection of soil
samples in piping trenches at the rate of one sample for every 20 lineal feet of trench.
This report was prepared in accordance with the standards of the environmental consulting industry at the time it was
prepared. It should not be relied upon by parties other than those for whom it was prepared, and then only to the
extent of the scope of work which was authorized.
