Mr. Kyle Christie%wool <br /> January 24, 1996 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Results <br /> The soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-G), and <br /> benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) using EPA Method 5030/8020 and 8015 <br /> Modified. At the request of Mr. Michael Kith of the County, the samples were also analyzed <br /> for total lead using EPA Method 6010. All of the soil samples were submitted to Sequoia <br /> Analytical of Sacramento, California. Table 1 presents the TPH-G/BTEX and total lead <br /> concentration for each of the samples collected. Appendix B contains the complete laboratory <br /> report. <br /> S <br /> Figure 2 is a site map presenting the soil sample locations, analytical data, and excavation <br /> limits. BTEX constituents were not identified above the laboratory detection limit in samples <br /> T-1 through T-9, and T-11. One or more of the BTEX constituents were identified in very <br /> low concentrations in T-10,T-12, and T-13. TPH-G was not identified in samples T1 through <br /> T-13. <br /> Hydrocarbons were identified in the soil at high concentrations using a Micro Tip Photo <br /> Ionization Detector (PID) in the soil in the vicinity of product dispenser one and two (sample <br /> T-14). The area near sample T-14 was over excavated and PID readings were taken at 5 feet <br /> and 8.5 feet below bottom of the trench. PID readings were 110 parts per million (ppm), and <br /> 150 ppm respectively. At an excavation depth of 11 feet, the PID readings were <br /> considerablely lower. The final excavation dimensions in the area of product dispensers one <br /> and two was 11 feet in length by 7 feet in width by 11_5 feet in doth. Soil sample T-14-11. <br /> 5A was collected from the bottom of the excavation. Groundwater was not encountered <br /> during the investigation. The soil stockpile was estimated at 60 to 70 cubic yards. <br /> rdid <br /> e analytical results for sample T-14, taken at a depth of 1.5 feet, indicated a TPH-G <br /> ncentration of 360,000 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). The benzene concentration in <br /> mple T-14 was 5,600mg/kg. Sample T-14-11.5A, collected at the bottom of the excavation <br /> not contain detectable TPH-G. The benzene concentration in sample T-14-11.5A was <br /> 87 mg/kg. <br /> In addition to the EPA 5030 extraction for TPH-G and BTEX, sample T-14-11.5A was <br /> analyzed for TPH-G and BTEX using the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Potential (TCLP) <br /> extraction using a zero headspace extraction vessel. The purpose of performing this test is to <br /> determine the potential for hydrocarbon constituents to leach into the groundwater. The <br /> analytical results of the TCLP analysis indicated that hydrocarbons will not leach into the <br /> groundwater from this sample location (none of the constituents were identified above <br /> detection limits). A complete laboratory report for the TCLP analysis is included in this letter <br /> as Appendix C. <br /> The analytical results for total lead indicated the presence of lead in all soil samples obtained. <br /> Based on a conversation with Mr. Harlan Knoll of the County, the lead levels in the soil may <br /> Use or disclosure of data continued on this sheet is subject to the restriction specified at the beginning of this <br /> document. <br /> 24 l'TR EPO RTSIS U M M.DOC <br />
