Atlantic Richfield Company 3
ARCO#5450,1617 West Print Street,Stockton,Califmia November 20,2001
California Occupational Health and Safety Administration
(Cal-OSHA) "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response"
guidelines (CCR Title 8, Section 5192), SECOR has prepared a Site-
Specific Health and Safety Plan prior to the commencement of
fieldwork. The Site-Specific Health and Safety Plan will be reviewed
by the field staff and contractors before beginning field operations at
the site and is included as Attachment C.
• Permitting. Permits for the soil borings will be obtained from the
SJCPHS.
• Soil Borings. Three soil borings will be drilled at the locations shown
on Figure 2 using 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers. The soil
borings will be drilled to a total depth of approximately 20 feet bgs.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals. Groundwater
samples will be collected from each boring at fust encountered
groundwater using a hydrropunch or similar type of sampling device.
Based upon historical data, groundwater is anticipated to be
encountered at 10-12 feet bgs. Upon completion, the borings will be
tremie grouted to one foot below grade with neat cement and finished
to match the surrounding surface grade.
• Soil Sample Analysis. Soil samples will be collected at 5-foot
intervals and will be sent under chain-of-custody procedures to a
California State-certified laboratory. Soil showing positive readings
on a PID or at least one sample for every ten feet of drilling will be
analyzed for TPHg using modified EPA Method 8015,benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX)by EPA Method 8020, and
for MtBE,DIPS,TAME,EtBE,TBA, 1,2 DCA, and EDB (fuel
oxygenates)by EPA Method 8260.
• Groundwater Sample Analysis. The groundwater samples collected
from the soil borings will be analyzed for TPHg using modified EPA
Method 8015,BTEX using EPA Method 8020, and fuel oxygenates
MtBE,DIPE,TAME,EtBE,TBA, 1,2 DCA, and EDB by EPA
Method 8260.
• Soil and Water Disposal. Soil cuttings generated during drilling
operations will be temporarily stored onsite and covered with plastic
sheeting pending characterization and disposal. Soil cuttings will be
removed by ARCO's disposal contractor to an appropriate disposal
facility. Water generated during steam cleaning will be temporarily
stored in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums pending transport by
ARCO's disposal contractor to an appropriate disposal or treatment
facility. Soil cuttings and purge water drums will be temporarily
stored onsite for approximately 4 to 8 weeks.
kARC'&54501workph=\ARC0 5450 WP
