The latest closure
application report was submitted by CYround Zero Analysis,Inc. (GZA)in April 1995. GZA
provided the distance to production wells within 2,000 feet of the site(the closest is 600 feet
northeast of the site and the others sire greater than 1,500 feet from the site),tabulated data of
ground water elevations and laboratory resivW%for water samples and confinnation soil sample
results and detection limits.
GZA states in the report that based on soil and ground water analytical results,it does not appear
that impacted soil or ground water is present at the site. However.based on soil boring analytical
data, residual benzene and diesel contamination remain in soil at 41.5 and 40 feet,respec,-tively.
GZA proposal that the Best Available Technology for remediation of the site was excavation of
contaminated soils. Low concentrations of ground water contamination existed in the on-site
monitoring well, however,GZA states that following the removal of the contaminated soil the
concentrations in ground water ceased.
SITE HISTORY
Three underground storage tankR(1-500 and 1-1,000 gallon leaded gasoline tank, and 1-10,000
gallon unleaded tank) were removed from the site on 3 January 1991. During tank removal, soil
sample restttts indicated contamination as high a5 30,000 parts per million(pptn)'Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as gasoline('i'PHg)and 39 ppm, 1,000 ppm,214 pprn and 1,540 ppm,henrene,
toluene,othylbenzene and xylenes(BTEX),respectively, at 14.5 feet below ground surface(bgs).
In March 1991, the tank pit was re-excavated and soil samples taken indicated that contamination
remained between 1]-21 feet bgs. A monitoring well, installed in May 1491,with the depth to
water at approximately 69 feet,showed 1.6 pans,per billion(ppb)benzene and 100 ppb TPH&
