WWI
31 October 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 07-1524
Page 3 of 10
soil samples and ground water will be collected for analysis. The soil and ground water sample
intervals will be based on the stratigraphic data provided from the CPT sounding. A minimum of
three soil samples will be collected,while AGE estimates two deep,grab ground water samples will
be collected and analyzed.Additionally three soil borings will be advanced and completedas shallow
ground water monitoring,wells.The wells will be developed and samples collected for analysis. Data
collected from the monitoring wells will be used to determine the ground water flow direction(s)and
determine the requirements for additional site assessment, including the installation of additional
ground water monitoring wells.
Assessment will consist of the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• CPT drilling and sample collection;
• Installation of monitoring wells;
• Laboratory analysis of samples;
• Preparation of a report of findings.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the EHD. In addition, an updated health
and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance
Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency). Prior to
mobilization,the area of soil borings will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through
Underground Service Alert.
3.2. CPT DRILLING AND SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance one paired CPT soil boring at the site as part of site assessment activities.
The proposed CPT soil boring location is illustrated in Figure 2. The CPT boring will be advanced
to characterize lithology.model potential contaminant migration pathways and to assess the vertical
extent of hydrocarbon-impacted ground water. AGE proposes to advance the CPT soil boring in the
former UST area.
The boring will be advanced to approximately 60feet bsg, or until grab ground water samples no
longer demonstrate hydrocarbon impact. The total depth of the boring may vary according to
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
