31 October 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 07-1524
hydrogeologic conditions encountered during drilling activities. The first boring will be a cone
penetrometer (CPT) bore; the CPT will acquire a continuous lithologic record to define the
hydrologic units.Additional borings subsequently will be advanced immediately adjacent to the first
bore to acquire soil and grab ground water samples in targeted zones based on interpreted lithologic
data and assessment needs.
Ground water and selected soil sam I s will be analyzed by a California Department of Health
Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TP1I-g)in accordance with EPA
Method 8015M; and
• Volatile organic compounds(VOCs), including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes
(BTEX),methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE)and 1,2-DCA,in accordance with EPA Method
8260.
Laboratory reports for soil and ground water analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality
assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be
presented in a report of findings and recommendations.
3.3. DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes to advance three pilot soil borings at the site for installation of ground water
monitoring wells,using a truck-mounted,hollow-stem drill rig equipped with 8.25-inch hollow-stem
augers to advance the well borings to approximately 20 feet bsg; the total depth of each well boring
may vary according to hydrogeologiclgeologic conditions encountered during drilling.
Well MW-1 will be installed approximately 25 feet northwest of the former UST area, well MW-2
will be installed approximately 25 feet southwest of the former UST area, and well MW-3 will be
installed approximately 20 feet east of the former UST area. Proposed monitoring well locations are
illustrated on Figure 2.
Soil samples will be collected from within the 8.25-inch hollow-stem augers at five-foot intervals
using a California split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves. At least two soil samples from each boring
will be by a State of California DHS-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015M. and
• VOCs in accordance with EPA Method 8260.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
