AECOM Work San Joat County EHD 2
June 15,2011
WELL DESTRUCTION PROCEDURES
On the behalf of TEC, AECOM will employ RSI Drilling (a licensed C-57 driller) of Woodland, California to
properly destroy the wells. The wells will be destroyed by removing the well boxes and over-drilling the wells
using 10-inch outer diameter hollow stem augers. The cuttings will be placed into 55-gallon drums for
temporary on-site storage at a location designated by the property owner. The boreholes will be grouted to
grade per San Joaquin County requirements following drilling. Due to the presence of overhead electrical
lines above wells MW-2 and MW-3, a Geoprobe 6620 limited access, track-mounted rig will be used for the
destruction of the wells.
Additional details pertaining to the scope of work include the following:
■ As required by law, the drilling locations for the three wells will be marked in advance and
Underground Service Alert will be notified at least 48 hours before commencing subsurface work.
■ AECOM will apply for the necessary well destruction permit from San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department(EHD). This Work Plan has been prepared as a requirement of the permit
application process.
■ Since all wells are on the property and the well destruction activities will be conducted on-site, an
encroachment permit from the City of Fremont is not required.
■ AECOM has prepared a site-specific health and safety plan (HASP) for the well destruction activities
(see attached).
■ All wastes (including cuttings, rinse water, etc)will be placed in 55-gallon U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT)-approved drums. The drums will be labeled with date, contents, generator, and
contact information and temporarily stored on-site at a location designated by the property owner. At
the completion of the drilling activities, the drums will be profiled, transported and disposed of by a
licensed disposal contractor to an appropriate disposal facility. Based on prior soil and groundwater
sampling results, the wastes likely will be classified as non-hazardous and transported for disposal at
Altamont Landfill in Livermore, California.
■ Boreholes will be grouted to grade with neat cement.
If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely yours,
A
Dan Ruslen, PE
Project Manager
Office: (510) 879-4509
Cell: (408) 624-7954
Figures: Figure 1 Site Vicinity Map
Attachments:
1.
